Most organizations have a deliberate focus on the what of their work – the next product launch, marketing campaign, or funding round. But too often, how this work gets done is unintentional, haphazard, and inefficient. Intelligent Collaboration is a way of working that unleashes the full potential of teams and organizations by using their time and energy with greater intention.

Our Intelligent Collaboration Index™ (ICI) is a custom diagnostic that assesses your team or organization’s ability to produce results through collaboration and pinpoints where improvement could make the most impact.

The ICI measures four key areas that either enhance or inhibit the effectiveness of your collaboration:

Leadership Signals – the daily, minute-by-minute cues that all leaders consciously and unconsciously send about how people should behave on a team to belong and succeed.

Operating Model – the specified way that a system is designed to produce value, including who does what work, where decisions get made, and the norms and guiding principles for working together.

Team Health – the degree to which members of the team feel they fit into the collective, are able to contribute their full value and be recognized for doing so, and are willing to depend on one another and have each other’s back

Work Practices – the habitual and expected ways in which people conduct activities such as meetings, email, and asynchronous work to achieve a business result.

We call these areas “threads” that together weave the Collaborative Fabric® of your organization. Leveraging both quantitative and qualitative inputs, the index pinpoints areas of strength and weakness across your fabric and provides specific recommendations for improving performance.

Here's how it works

• Each member of your team completes the ICI assessment, which includes 30 multiple choice questions and two short answer questions. We can administer the ICI to teams as small as 10 and as large as your entire organization. The survey takes an individual about 20-25 minutes to complete.
• We synthesize the quantitative and qualitative results to form a comprehensive picture of collaboration within your organization.
• We share a comprehensive report outlining your team or organization’s collaborative strengths and opportunity areas
• The report includes recommendations for improving the strength of each thread – Leadership Signals, Operating Model, Team Health, and Work Practices; these  recommendations include free resources, quick-win tactics that teams can undertake on their own, and more comprehensive strategies that SMLT can support
• You can elect to take the ICI again after interventions are complete to measure progress
